When a prolific, eminently gifted singer-songwriter also happens to be an instrumental virtuoso, real sparks can fly. Willy Porter has spent roughly the last 20 years perfecting both sides of this acoustic music coin, and his latest album, “How To Rob A Bank” — available on Weasel Records, or via www.weaselrecords.com — has been widely regaled as his finest to date.

Along his troubadour’s road, Porter has picked up a prominent fan quote or two. Here are two personal favorites: “Thank goodness he doesn’t play the flute.” (Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull) “Willy plays rhythms that make me want to crawl inside his guitar and sleep there forever.” (Tori Amos)

Porter and his guitar — presumably, without a sleeping Tori Amos curled up inside — will perform inside Babeville’s Ninth Ward at 8 p. m. Tuesday.
